Episode 050 – SPECIAL EDITION: Surviving R Kelly Dialogue With Special Guests

Episode 050 – SPECIAL EPISODE: A Frank Discussion About “Surviving R. Kelly” and other issues of abuse, family, parenting, and culture (With Special Guests Dee-1 and Devona Alleyne)

In a break from our normal dialogue, show line-up, and podcast segments, we attempt to tackle the tough subjects raised during the recently released Lifetime docu-series “Surviving R. Kelly”.

Our Host welcomed national recording artists Dee-1 (pictured here) and clinical therapists Devona Alleyne (pictured below) to the podcast for a multi-angled discussion on the docu-series and the tough topics raised.

Upon Lifetime TV Network’s release of the docu-series, the media (including social media) had a constant buzz.  Millions of discussions, threads, comments, videos, blog posts, podcasts and the like were generated from the docu-series.

*DISCLAIMER: While I believe that parents should watch the docu-series AND create dialogue in your home about the topics covered in the docu-series, I would recommend that you watch it first without your children and THEN decide whether your children can handle watching, based on their age, maturity, and ability to process the topics.  PLEASE use HEALTHY discretion.

There are so many angles, conversations and lives impacted. The docu-series raises some very hard questions and lifts up some very difficult topics.

We couldn’t discuss every angle and every topic, but just for a few minutes we walked through some pretty heavy waters.

Enjoy the dialogue!

Episode 047 – A Happy New Year!

Episode 047 – A Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays AND Happy New Year Everyone! Today is the last THURSDAY of 2018! WOW – 2018 has been a full year. This time of the year also brings about a time where many folks are thinking about closing out one year and goals for the new year.  New Years goals, reinventing yourself, navigating the changes that are necessary to grow and improve are all par for the course.

Today, I wanted to provide a short message to say THANK YOU, a reflection of some things to do to close out the year and take a few minutes and pray for you!

Sure, January 1 is just another day on the calendar.  But the bringing in a new year allows all of us to press RESET – We press RESET with our habits, goals, pursuits, and dreams. But the new year gives us an opportunity to start over and begin AGAIN.

Enjoy this brief thoughts about the new year and a prayer from me to you as you begin the new year!

Episode 037 [Ministry/Leadership] – How Can We Defend The Church? With Dr Brianna Parker – Part 2

Episode 037 – How Can We Defend The Church? – With Dr Brianna K Parker (Black Millennial Cafe) – Part 2

For the past few months, the Wise Idea Podcast and our host Christopher J Harris has tackled the tough topics surrounding the challenges facing today’s church.  The emphasis is on the North American Protestant church. To be sure, the Church has it share of real issues and problems and the media has presented The Church as a problem institution that is out of touch with today’s culture. The Dad Life With Marc Jeffrey, Part 2 :: A Conversation About The Life of Being A Dad, Real Fatherhood, & and Parenting with Marc Jeffrey (Leader of the #DadLife & CEO of The Legacy Consulting Group)

The entire month of June, we are focused on Dads and Fatherhood! It is a TRUE statement when Pope John XXIII said, “It is easier for a Father to have children than for children to have a real father.” So all of this month, we are focusing on Dads, Fathers, Fatherhood, and parenting from the angle of the Dad. We believe that Dads often don’t get their credit and are their impact is often misunderstood. Our host Christopher J Harris, continues the month-long conversation with Mr. Marc Jeffrey, who’s the lead for The Dad Life Brand and CEO of Legacy Consulting Group.  Feeling like a living room conversation, Marc spoke very straightforward about his journey and growth into Fatherhood, his daily navigation of being a dad, and offered a number of great and simple tools that everyone would benefit from. Although it’s past, Happy Father’s Day to all of the Men out there!

Episode 018 [Life / Men / Fathers] – How To Recover From Injury

A Message About Fatherhood & Life :: How To Recover From Injury With Christopher J Harris

All of the month of June, the Wise Idea Podcast and our host Christopher J Harris will focus on Men, Fathers, Dads, and Fatherhood. To be clear, we are celebrating the men who ARE taking care of business.  Regardless of the cultural narrative that’s been created, there are millions of dads across the world who are handling their business. Regardless of race or class many Dads step up every day to serve their families and empower their children. This month, we’ll contribute to that conversation.

A Few Key Ideas:

  • God’s plan for us is to live HEALTHY, HEALED and WHOLE lives.
  • The context for our story in Recovery From Injury involves King David and his interactions with his sons in 2 Samuel 15: 4-13.
  • 3 Things Missing From This Story – that are almost always missing from homes and families where there is trouble:
    • David doesn’t appear to have admitted his own sins with his sons.
      • You know, the problem for too many parents is the fact that when we sin we feel it is somehow beneath us to acknowledge that we had done anything wrong.
      • DON’T EVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF AN APOLOGY!
      • You cannot – I repeat – YOU CANNOT disobey God and expect your behavior NOT to have an effect on the people you care for… upon those who look up to you.
    • David looked the other way when his children sinned.
      • David NEVER punished Amnon OR Absalom for what they did.
      • BUT DAVID DID NOTHING – He shifted his parental responsibility and He didn’t pass his faith along to his children.
    • David failed to ask God for Guidance and Help.
      • Nowhere in this story do we read of David praying to God for guidance.
      • We don’t see where David asked God to help him forgive his son.
      • Why wouldn’t he do that? Why wouldn’t David cry out to God for guidance and help in the midst of this terrible mess?
      • I suspect it’s because David suffered from the same spiritual weakness that effects many Godly men and women – I call it Compartmentalization: the tendency to put our lives in different compartments.
      • Often, It’s not that we deliberately leave God out of our family life. It’s just that we don’t deliberately include Him.
  • Notice God does not :
    1. withdraw his love
    2. never disciplines in anger(1 Cor 13:5)
    3. never forces our will
  • Notice God does:
    1. Set Boundries
    2. Warns us (Gal 6:7)
    3. Chasens us for our benefit
    4. Is willing to forgive us when we return
  • Allow God To Customize A Plan of Recovery For You.

  • “God can still work in our mistakes.” – Heather M.
  • “You can have a horrible upbringing and God still use you to do incredible things.” – Heather M.
  • “We can’t take this load that we are fully responsible for everything that our kids do. In some ways God wants to develop their story that doesn’t include us.” – Heather M.

Parents – Are you happy, even if your kids aren’t happy? Or are you co-dependent on your child’s happiness to manage your own emotions?

Does technology impede on our lives and cause us to miss important moments?

Episode 012 [Life] – Childless, Not By Choice with Civilla Morgan, Part 2

Childless, Not By Choice :: A Discussion About Life, Infertility, Grief, and Unanswered Prayer with Civilla Morgan(pronounced Sa-Vil-La) – Part 2

In Part 2 of this transparent, humble, and strong interview, our host, Christopher J Harris, engages in a candid conversation of the subjects of infertility, grief and trauma, and unanswered prayers. Childless, Not By Choice is a platform and movement that was created by Ms Civilla Morgan, MSM, that is giving ladies (and men) a space to learn, grow, and adjust to life when there are infertility and child loss circumstances in their lives and marriages. This platform was born out of the real life struggle of Ms. Morgan. You can see more about her platform, podcast, and social media here: Childless, Not By Choice Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Pinterest | LinkedIn. You can also pick up a copy of her book, Down Again on Amazon

You can check out Part 1 of the Interview Here.

A Few Key Ideas:

  • A transparent, honest, and real testimony of a lady who had deep desires for marriage and children and hasn’t be able to see that to become a personal reality. So, she did something about it.
  • The Story of Hannah
  • We “choose” how we respond to challenges in life.
  • Regardless of your faith, a critical question that we all have to answer – “Do we believe in the God that we say we believe in?”
  • Churches and Ministries should be very intentional in its approach of considering those who are childless or have experienced child loss, particularly around seasons like Mothers and Fathers Day.
  • God can handle your questions!
  • The Childless, Not By Choice is for both Men and Women.
  • Additional Notes From Part 1:
    • Unfortunately, some marriages are extremely challenged with infidelity issues. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
    • Kind, But Firm Boundaries is necessary.
    • There are boundaries to your (in)fertility.
      • “There must be a battle to protect your __________.” (You’ll have to listen to the episode – :))
    • “___% of the people are just not aware.” – C. Morgan
    • Those dealing with this reality must find a way to grieve and learn to deal with what the loss means to them.
    • For those who are Christians, you must decide if you’re going to believe in the God you say you believe in.
  • Sometimes God says no. That no must be trusted.

Morgan.
