For the last two weeks our Host, Christopher J Harris, welcomed Dr Efrem Smith to unleash his brilliance and passion around the local church, the black church, the multi-ethnic church and what all of this looks like in the future. He plainly challenged the church to reconsider what happens when we dream again. This week’s conversation is just as rich. We welcome Pastor Brandon Cox to our podcast to engage in a robust conversation around Pastoring. His unique experience criss-crossing the country in various ministry settings will shed light and wisdom for today’s Pastor, in any context.

Episode 165 – Pivots, Pain, Passion, and Perspective With Kara Land Cannizzaro, Part 2

Episode 165 – Pivots, Pain, Passion, and Perspective With Kara Land Cannizzaro, Part 2

Episode sponsored by DiverseChurchJobs.com

We welcomed to the studio, Kara Land Cannizzaro, for a two part conversation on how she’s made a hard pivot from a successful career as an attorney to one where her health and family have been the focus.

You can listen to Part 1 of our discussion here.

So many of us are trying to simply figure it out. How to have good health, getting free from any disorders or bad habits, successfully manage our careers, have thriving families and home life, grow spiritually, and have a passion in life…all while having a peace of mind. Kara deals with all of this! (SPOILER ALERT: Alcohol was a major factor in her journey!)

Kara Land Cannizzaro is a former attorney turned health and running coach and business mentor. She married to her high school sweetheart and has two kids, Dominick age 12 and Avery, age 10. She graduated from Florida State University in 2000 and again in 2005 with her Juris Doctor. She went into private practice in 2005, working in planning, zoning and local governmental matters but after 12 years and with two active kids, switched directions to pursue a career in health and wellness.

She is now a full-time wellness coach and business mentor leading a team of over 1,200 men and women who help other moms and dads build healthy habits. Over the past 8 years, she has turned her focus to coaching her clients, and her own self-mastery journey, which includes the active study of leadership, mindfulness, growth mindset, wellness and living a life of purpose. That path and examination of her life led her to more fully embrace her relationship with Jesus Christ. She also decided to live a life free of alcohol and has been sober for over 4 years.

Kara was active in student government and her sorority at FSU and was a collegiate athlete, walking on to the FSU Cross Country team. She’s run 18 full marathons, has time-qualified for the coveted Boston Marathon 3 times and is a certified RRCA Running Coach.

(Accolades in her Coaching business include being a past Elite Coach {top .02% of the coaching community}, a Legacy Club member {having earned over $1,000,000 cumulatively as a Coach} and having helped over 1,000 clients in her 8 years in this role).

Episode 162 – Tempered Resilience With Tod Bolsinger, Part 2

Episode 162 – Tempered Resilience With Tod Bolsinger, Part 2

Episode sponsored by DiverseChurchJobs.com

What type of leadership is needed in a moment that demands adaptive change?  Tod Bolsinger, author of Canoeing the Mountains, is uniquely positioned to explore the qualities of adaptive leadership in contexts ranging from churches to nonprofit organizations. He deftly examines both the external challenges we face and the internal resistance that holds us back.

Bolsinger writes: “To temper describes the process of heating, holding, hammering, cooling, and reheating that adds stress to raw iron until it becomes a glistening knife blade or chisel tip.” When reflection and relationships are combined into a life of deliberate practice, leaders become both stronger and more flexible. As a result, these resilient leaders are able to offer greater wisdom and skill to the organizations they serve.

Tod Bolsinger is the Vice-President for Vocation and Formation and Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary. For seventeen years, he was the Senior Pastor of San Clemente Presbyterian Church in San Clemente, California, after serving for ten years at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. He earned a Ph.D. in Theology and Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. He is the author of two books, including the Christianity Today Award of Merit recipient, It Takes a Church to Raise a Christian: How the community of God transforms lives. He blogs at http://bolsinger.blogs.com and speaks, consults and is an executive coach for corporate, non-profit, educational and church organizations in transformational leadership.

Tod has been married to Beth since 1989. Beth is a marriage and family counselor who is an executive coach and consultant. She is also a professional artist. They have two young-adult children, Brooks and Ali. An avid outdoor lover, if he hadn’t taken biology after lunch in high school, Tod would have been a National Park Ranger. When he retires, he is going to be a ski host who puts four people on every quad chair lift.

Episode 161 – Tempered Resilience With Tod Bolsinger, Part 1

Episode 161 – Tempered Resilience With Tod Bolsinger, Part 1

Most of us have seen the news, watched the videos, and observed the trending topics around #StopAsianHate. A great thinker, leader, Chaplain, and Author, J.S.Park, joined us in the studio to have a candid and challenging conversation about what we should be feeling, listening for, and actually doing.

Episode 151 – Socially Connected (A Teaching)

Episode sponsored by DiverseChurchJobs.com

Episode 143 – Hearing The Voice & Wisdom Of Ms. Lisa Sharon Harper (Special Episode)

Episode sponsored by DiverseChurchJobs.com

In this special edition of the The Wise Idea Podcast, we welcomed Ms. Lisa Sharon Harper, Founder and President of FreedomRoad.us. Her visit to our podcast was specifically in response to her engagement and discussion and response to the statement released by the Southern Baptist Convention Seminary Presidents in December 2020.

Several weeks ago, the Evangelical and Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) was set ablaze with a statement that was released by the six SBC Seminary Presidents essentially making a pretty forceful stance and position on race and justice, particularly around critical race theory. You can read the official statement here.

Twitter and Social Media and Influencers kicked it into high gear.

Beth Moore offered her thoughts. You can read them here.

Two African American Pastors (with considerable platforms) have cut ties with SBC. You can read about them and their statements here.

And more specifically, Lisa Sharon Harper offered a thorough and scathing response that also clarified critical race theory. You can read her response/thread here.

Episode 141 – Processing The Presidential Election & More With John C Richards, Jr.

Episode sponsored by DiverseChurchJobs.com

This Presidential Election was historic – on every level. As of the time of this election, the voter turnout has been historic. Never before have this many people voted in an election (Read this). And while for some that’s good news, for others it’s not.  Beyond the sheer number of people voting, there were a number of key realities that were before us – the issue of healthcare, voting rights/suppression, justice issues, law enforcement engagement/reform, community development and more.

Our friend, John C. Richards, Jr., an Attorney, Pastor, Community Activist, and Writer, joins us for a great discussion on processing what everyone is feeling and sensing as a result of this election.

Episode 140 – The Intersection Of Faith & Politics & Being Politically Homeless With Justin Giboney

Episode sponsored by DiverseChurchJobs.com

We have, for a number of our previous episodes directly addressed and discussed the issues that we have faced during our pandemic. At various points, we will pause those discussions to lean into additional conversations that are relevant to our audience. This week is one of those times.

The Wise Idea Podcast welcomes Justin E. Giboney, Esq., President of The AND (&) Campaign & author of Compassion & Conviction. He sat with our host to talk about why he (and the other Founders) launched The AND Campaign, the tensions that he’s managed between social justice and moral order, what led him to write a book (prior to the pandemic) that deals with race issues focused on churches. His conviction to the conversation around justice and the history of race in America is clear. Not only does he unpack the why behind the book, the topics of the book, he really helps us understand how Christians should be navigating these social issues and constructs to politics. This episode also helps Christians put language to the heart of God and the politics of our culture.

In some cases, we have paused some topics and in others we feel like its necessary to continue with some of the Guests that we’ve invited to be apart of our conversations.

Today’s Episode is a POWERHOUSE conversation with a POWERHOUSE of a Thinker/Intellectual who happens to be a Pastor and Professor – Dr. Dharius Daniels. Dr. Daniels took a break from his own podcast and the daily rigors of pastoring his church, Change Church, which has campuses in multiple locations. You can learn more about Dr. Daniels here: https://dhariusdaniels.com/about/
